The tears of a clown.

Dark blue shirt, Forever 21. Off-white dress worn as a skirt, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair. Bowler hat and striped shoes, Monki. Cheetah print tights, H&M.

During these past couple of days, I've felt a little bit... off. I've picked out what to wear, put it on, and felt like something was just missing. But not today! Oh no. Today I feel pretty darn fierce!

This morning, when my boyfriend saw me in this outfit, he said "wow. You look a little bit like a clown."
"Umm, thanks", I said. "But nice though, right?"
"Of course. There's absolutely no contradiction between 'clown' and 'nice'. I like clowns. Circus people in general, actually. And carnies, and... no, wait! Wait! You look like you're travelling across the country in a horse-drawn carriage, selling stuff. That's cool."

Bingo! That's exactly what I was going for. The look of someone who's travelling across the country in a horse-drawn carriage, selling stuff. I love that he gets me.

(No sarcasm!)

  1. This outfit is incredibly inspiring...and the whole idea of the look being someone driving around in a horse drawn carriage selling stuff...that's inspiring too, along with the picture. Gosh, I think I have to go start a story with all the ideas I have now! :)

How did you do your make up in these photos?

  2. I think maybe it's the hat that is giving it a clowny vibe? In the best way, of course. Last night we were all playing a game of getting to know one another by guessing what we thought each other would like the most by picking one out of a list of 5 things and we were discussing how almost nobody likes clowns, usually everyone hates them but there is always ONE person who LOVES them! And that is what makes them so great! You either hate them or love them, but NOBODY IS INDIFFERENT ABOUT CLOWNS! <3

  3. I want to travel around in a horse drawn carriage selling stuff! Take me with you, Annika!

Oh, and you look gorgeous as always :)

I'm jealous of how you can have awesome bangs with your curlyish hair... and then brush them out of your face if you don't want them. How do you do it?

  4. You always look so amazing and beautiful, Annika, and you practically can pull anything off, no matter how against the grain it maybe. Totally fierce look. And I just read your "About Me" section. HIMYM, Glee, and GG? Heck yes! I watch and own all the seasons of the shows like there's no tomorrow. ♥

  6. I am in agreement with Shayli - everytime you do a shoot your hair looks great and everytime it's just a little different.

And travel is love. I thank my parents every day for instilling a love of movement in me. So glad someone else understands it.

Love this - especially the tights, I'm going to have to stalk the stores around me to see if I can find them. Are they from h&m from quite a while ago or a recent purchase?

  14. I've been trying to leave a comment for the last 2 days but my blog account keeps telling me I'm not signed in. Ah, yet another beautiful, editorial-worthy set of images.
As for traveling the country in a horse-drawn carriage: absolutely! This makes me think of the stories my mum tells that her own (late) mother told her - of when my grandma was in her teens (in the mid 1950s) and used to sneak out in the evenings to sit around the campfires of the traveling gipsies when they camped nearby. From what I've heard of my grandma she was definitely a free spirit.

  16. Maria E - yaaay, I'm so glad to get a comment from you! I think your style is absolutely amazing! Thanks so much for your kind words.

Hmmm... this is sort of my "normal" make up, ok, let's see how I do it. I use I.D. bare minerals foundation, a dark blush, brown eye shadow on the lids and a little bit of darker brown eye shadow under the eyes (put on with a thin brush). Black mascara and dark red lipstick. Tadaaa! ;)

nicki, that very true. People do have quite the love/hate relationship to clowns. Except for me, maybe. I mean, I f-ing hate that guy in "It", but think of those older men who work at circuses and maybe are, like, really lonely and live for making people laugh but then go inside their trailers and cry because noone loves them when they're not in their costumes, hey, that's just heartbreaking.

Actually you're wrong about the hat making the clown-y vibe, at least for my bf - cause I wasn't wearing the hat at the time. So there you go! I think it was the funny hair that made him think of clowns. I have to ask him.

Shayli, thank you so much my dear! Of course I'll take you with me, we'd be a great team! ;) My hair is extremely tricky, that's why I love wearing hats, haha. I can't really say what I'm doing, I just fight with my bangs until they look somewhat OK, and then I'm praying that it won't be too windy that day. :) I want to grow it out, though. It's way too much trouble. I mean I knew that, can't believe I was stupid enough to cut it again after growing it our for years!

Jamie @ The Fancy Teacup, darling, how could I be surprised that someone as awesome as you love the same amazing shows as I do? ;) I wish we lived way closer to eachother and could have a HIMYM-marathon together!

the little world of fashion, thank you! I don't understand much when I try to read your blog but I adore the photographs!

Jenna, cutie! You're so adorable. I have about 10 pairs of the H&M tights (since the quality isn't as fabulous as the print, haha) and I keep buying new ones so they should still be in stores!

I've travelled so much in my life that now I truly appreciate just staying home with the cats. :) But I would go crazy if I couldn't go see something different at least once or twice a year. The Swedish country side is stunning and so calming, but I do need the occasional adventure! Which is your favorite place you've ever travelled to? My favorite place has to be Kreuzberg in Berlin, me and my boyfriend Ronnie lived there for a year and we still have an apartment there that we share with some friends. It feels like my second home.

Mariel Torres, thaaaank yooou! I'm so glad to have you as my follower! :D

Jennyboo, thank you so much! The blog you and your friend write is amazing, you have a new follower!

Kristel Louisa, thank you! It's such a pleasure meeting you, too. I have to say that your blog header is probably the most beautiful I've ever seen.

seren dipity, well, that probably means I love your sense of humour, too! ;)

Tori, wow, that's quite the amazing compliment! Unfortunately I don't think Vogue agrees with you... ;) But it sure would be awesome if they did!

    Youngseo, well that's because you're a sweetheart. <3

Vera, thank you! I wear these tights way too often, I have so many pairs that are exactly the same because they go with so many different outfits.

Roz, oh really? That's so annoying! Stupid blogger.

Wow, it sure sounds like she had an open mind and, as you say, a free spirit. That's incredible - I wish I'd heard stories like that about my grandmother, it's truly inspiring. It does seem like you have a lot of that joy for life inside of you, too.

    Luisa T., thank you, dear!
